Argentina is the second-largest country by land mass in South America. It’s bordered to the north by Paraguay and Bolivia, to the northeast by Brazil and Uruguay, and to the west and south by Chile. The birthplace of the Tango, its cities are full of culture and arts while its geographically diverse mountains, grasslands, deserts and jungles are home to some of the most stunning scenery in the world. From penguins and glaciers in the south to fine steak and delicious wine in Buenos Aires and Mendoza to stark desert scenes in the north and wild roaring jungle waterfalls in the east, Argentina is rich with experiences for any visitor.

South America’s largest country, Brasil borders every nation on the continent except Chile and Ecuador. Some of the world’s most exciting cities lie inside Brazil’s borders. Travelers need not come for Carnaval to experience the music, dance and revelry that distinguish that event. Brasil is exciting year-round. Powdery white sand beaches, lined with palm trees and fronting the deep blue Atlantic, stretch more than 7,000 kilometers. Dotting this coastline are tropical islands, music-filled metropolises and enchanting colonial towns. Inland, Brazil offers dazzling sights of a different flavor: majestic waterfalls, red rock canyons, and crystal clear rivers. Brasil’s largest and most famous attractions are the Amazon and the Pantanal, a pair of rivers hosting some of the greatest biodiversity on the planet. Wildlife watching is simply astounding here.

Chile is located along the western edge of South America, bordered by Peru and Bolivia in the north and Argentina to the east. The most striking aspect of Chile is its extremely thin and long shape. Spanning 2,604 miles from north to south, there is no area of Chile that measures more than 115 miles in width. Chile is known for its astounding natural beauty and geographical diversity, as well as its modern infrastructure and economic prosperity. From the Pacific Ocean to the Andes mountains, from the jagged snow-capped peaks of Patagonia to the dry red earth of the Atacama Desert, and from Antarctica to the culturally and historically impressive statues on Easter Island, Chile has more than a little of something for everyone.

Solemn pilgrimages honor gods both Christian and indigenous. Peru is a nation of mixed ethnic groups.
Throughout its history, Peru has been the meeting ground for different nations and cultures. The Spanish began commingling with the indigenous population 500 years ago.
